Ministers

Ministers are the MPs and members of the House of Lords who are part of the UK Government. They are appointed by the Prime Minister and each given a specific area of government policy to oversee.

Ministers speak on behalf of the Government and there are usually several in each department. The minister leading their given department is often referred to as the Secretary of State (for example, the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions).
