CLOSER creates software for a consortium of universities entering and managing metadata for UK’s leading longitudinal studies. All of our software is released as open-source and therefore requires continual maintenance. The post holder will be responsible for both designing new software and extending CLOSER’s current software portfolio. The duties cover all aspect of development from conception to documentation. Also, the post holder would be expected to present their work to both internal and external audiences when requested.

The appointment will be full time and is available from the 19 June 2017 until 30 September 2019 in the first instance.

Key requirements

The successful candidate will have a degree or higher degree in a computationally based field, or equivalent professional experience. Significant experience in software development and the ability to rapidly acquire fluent knowledge of new programming languages, libraries and platforms are essential requirements of the post. Knowledge of and experience with object-oriented design, design patterns and refactoring. The candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to effectively present complex or technical information to a range of audiences. Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks and activities, working to deadlines and prioritising as appropriate.
