About the conference
Conference Dates: 9 – 11 October 2023 (workshops on 12 October 2023)

Conference Chairs: Susan Morton (SLLS President and University of Technology Sydney) and Sabine Waler (DJI – Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich)
The theme of the 12th conference of the Society for Longitudinal and Lifecourse Studies is Life Courses in Times of Uncertainty. This theme intends to capture the impact of societal (countries, welfare regimes) and meso-level contexts (local territories, organisations, social networks) on the life trajectories of individuals, mixing comparative and longitudinal analyses and how contexts change when individuals’ life courses take different normative paths across periods of time.
The conference will be an in-person event, hosted by Sabine Walper and her team at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Germany.
This year, there will be three post-conference workshops taking place (in person only) at the German Youth Institute in Munich, Germany on Thursday 12 October. The workshops will focus on:
- FReDA – The German Family Demography Panel Study for New and Prospective Users
- From the Social to the Biological: A workshop of theory and practicalities of researching how our social circumstances get under the skin
- Data analyses with the Growing Up in Germany Survey (AID:A)
For more information and to book on to a workshop, visit the workshops page of the SLLS conference website.
